Cohasset Democrat Meg Wheeler announced today that she has passed the 300 signature threshold to be on the ballot in September’s primary election. Wheeler is running for State Senate in the Plymouth and Norfolk district to represent Cohasset, Duxbury, Hingham, Hull, Marshfield, Norwell, Scituate, and Weymouth.

I’m excited to officially be on the ballot, to bring bold ideas and a fresh perspective to the big challenges we’re facing in our district,” says Wheeler. “Especially in these trying times, having someone in the State Senate who is a small business owner and has financial expertise is important to ensure our economy recovers in the wake of COVID-19.

State Senate candidates need 300 signatures to be certified and submitted to the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s office by April 28 to appear on the ballot for the September 1 primary. With only 4 of the 8 towns in her district having completed certification of her nomination papers, Meg submitted her signatures to the Secretary of Commonwealth and was certified to be on the ballot with 311 signatures. Wheeler says they expect an additional 150 signatures to be certified and her campaign will submit those as they come back from Town Clerk’s offices. Wheeler expressed her thanks to all of the Town Clerks for working diligently during this time to support every candidate who is running.

On how her campaign managed to get signatures during this chaotic time, Wheeler credits an early start and being prepared.

We pulled nomination papers the day they came out and got all of our signatures in one week before the Governor issued the stay-at-home advisory. Our team of volunteers went door to door, to grocery stores, to family gatherings, and everywhere in between to gather signatures. I am so proud of what we have done and what we will continue to do in this campaign.
