TRANSPORTATION
Everyone deserves equal access to environmentally friendly public transportation and safe streets.
Meg will advocate for:
Restoring Our Broken Transportation
Implementing rapid, electrified regional rail in greater Boston, which would include improvements to the commuter rail system and greater rapid-transit access for the South Shore
Increased funding for GATRA and MBTA so buses and commuter rail travel faster and more frequently
Transportation Justice
Creating a low income fare plan for the regional transit authorities, as currently GATRA only has discounted fares for disabled and elderly riders
Establishing the Massachusetts transportation and environment equity fund, to fund projects which have a low-environmental impact and help historically disadvantaged minority groups access public transit
Funding research on barriers to equitable transportation access
Green Transportation
Increasing rebates for electric vehicle purchases
Modernizing the public transit fleet to include more electric and hybrid vehicles
Encouraging Shared Rides and Carpooling by decreasing fees for carpoolers
Giving grants for groups that market and promote new carpooling and van pooling, or the operation and coordination of bus and shuttle services between existing transportation facilities, major employment centers and commercial and retail centers
Prioritizing roadway maintenance over expansion and ensuring that any new road capacity meets environmental goals
Decreasing Traffic & Creating Safer Streets
Bringing the Complete Streets Funding Program to all South Shore towns that don’t currently have the program, which will ensure that all modes of travel are safe and accessible.
Limiting on-street parking to allow for dedicated bus lanes and implementing signal priority to reduce delays at intersections
Creating a 4% surtax on income above $1 million to fund education and transportation reinvestment
Allowing small businesses fair opportunity to compete for federally funded transportation contracts
Giving the district the power to raise revenue for transportation projects through ballot initiatives
