The CARES Act, signed into law on March 27, 2020, provides for the suspension of payments on all federal student loans through September 30, 2020. This suspension will happen automatically, and interest will also be suspended during this time. Any payments you make during this time will go 100% to principal. The suspension should be reflected on your account by April 13, 2020.
what to do with your private student loans
The CARES Act does not provide relief for private student loan borrowers. However, many of the largest private student loan lenders are offering options, such as payment suspensions or forbearance, to affected borrowers.
