OPIOID EPIDEMIC
This is a public health crisis and we need to focus on treatment, not criminalization.
Meg will advocate for:
Recognizing that the opioid epidemic is a public health crisis and should be handled as such; focusing on treatment and not criminalization
Create more non-arrest options that lead to treatment
Supervised Safe Injection Facilities, which have been shown to be an effective treatment for addiction
Invest in significant affordable housing development to provide stable housing for our growing homeless population
Expand access to quality and affordable treatment programs, with a particular focus on collaboration between medical, behavioral and community organizations and incorporating proven methods such as counseling and community re-engagement
Education and resources so that businesses can be more “recovery-friendly” and support their employees going through treatment
A single-payer health care system that guarantees access to quality and affordable health care treatment, including mental health and addiction treatment, not tied to your employment
