CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM
We need a fair and equitable criminal justice system.
Meg will advocate for:
OVERTURNING DISCRIMINATORY PRACTICES
Eliminating cash bail that disproportionately impacts lower-income residents and people of color
Overturning mandatory minimum sentences for most drug crimes
Repealing mandatory life sentences without parole
Opposing all efforts to bring back the death penalty
Decriminalize minor infractions such as driving without a license
Raising the age of criminal majority to 21 and expanding access to treatment and education for offending youth
Increase and protect the rights of incarcerated persons to visitations from friends and family members
Reinvest savings from lower incarceration into community projects and neighborhoods most affected by high rates of incarceration

RECOGNIZING DRUG ADDICTION AS A PUBLIC HEALTH CONCERN
Policies that treat drug addiction as the public health concern it is, and NOT as a criminal justice issue
Allocating funds to prioritize treatment over incarceration
SAFE AND FAIR MARIJUANA LAWS
Ensuring the state’s marijuana business positively impacts people of color and communities most negatively impacted by the war on drugs
Supporting efforts to seek retroactive justice for previous convictions that would no longer be classified as crimes
